Making Chemicals a more Inclusive Industry

An inclusive campus hiring initiative to support women aspirants eager to start their careers in the manufacturing industry

Earlier this year, Godrej Industries Limited (Chemicals) flagged off "FemChem," an inclusive campus hiring initiative. The aim: supporting women aspirants eager to start their careers in the manufacturing industry. For GIL (Chem), this is more than just a hiring initiative; it's a comprehensive programme that aims to empower and develop women in the field of manufacturing, to develop our next-generation women leaders.

Here’s how it works: twice a year, in July and December, the team conducts a drive to recruit entry-level women aspirants off campus. This July, we approached a few colleges in Mumbai and nearby locations. The first batch, consisting of 20 talented young women, joined us at our Valia and Ambernath plants in July 2024. These top twenty are currently undergoing a planned structured capability development training. It focuses on technical, functional and behavioural development, as well as safety and compliance adherence – crucial in the chemicals business.

So is solidarity and support. That’s why we’ve planned for regular 1:1 buddy connect check-ins, and mentoring for personalised attention and support. We also think it’s important for this cohort to to engage with our leadership team, and we’ll make sure they have the opportunity. To track progress and ensure continuous improvement, the programme will include quarterly connects and reviews focused on learning outcomes and skill development.

We’re looking forward to the next round of campus engagements already, because it’s clear to us that FemChem is not just about hiring; it's about creating a culture where everyone feels valued, respected, and empowered to reach their full potential.
