WINGS: Advancing Women in Frontline Sales

How Godrej Tyson Foods Ltd. (GTFL) is advancing women’s inclusion in a sector where gender diversity is considered a challenge

It’s said that women hold up the sky. What what better way to emphasize this than by Godrej Tyson Foods Limited (GTFL)’s launch of WINGS? This is a programme aimed at empowering and advancing women in frontline sales, a sector where gender diversity is typically considered a challenge. WINGS represents a transformational journey for GTFL, because we’re  making conscious efforts to develop capabilities in women within the industry while simultaneously creating a diversely talented workspace.

The inaugural batch of WINGS was inducted in April 2024 with a five-day, power-packed workshop at our Mumbai headquarters. An enriching induction programme  included classroom sessions, on-the-job training, comprehensive market visits, and a fun-filled visit to the GTFL Culinary Innovation Centre. For this batch of dynamic women, the program is a career milestone as they begin their journey with Godrej in frontline sales. The pilot batch includes eight sales trainees across four major cities – Delhi, Bangalore, Mumbai, and Pune.

“The support from my sales team has been incredible, helping me open 20 new outlets for Godrej Tyson frozen food products in just one month,” Rutuja Padole, a sales trainee from D. Y. Patil IMR, Pune, said. "The inclusive and motivating company culture has greatly boosted my confidence and skills. I highly recommend Godrej Agrovet for anyone seeking a fulfilling career in the food industry.”

The managing team at GTFL were enthusiastic about the launch of WINGS, and highlighted that the programme aims to foster greater representation of women in sales. They emphasised the recognition of women's invaluable contributions and the promotion of talent through this initiative. The team hopes for WINGS to champion diversity and harness innovation  by incorporating the unique perspectives and skills that women bring to the sales force. It’s a great reason to strive to break industry barriers and shape a more inclusive future for their sales community.

Apurva Bhogale, a Sales Trainee from Kohinoor Management School, Mumbai, also expressed her gratitude regarding the program, “The initiative taken by Godrej to bring women into frontline sales through the WINGS program is a really good start,” Apurva Bhogale, a sales trainee from Mumbai’s Kohinoor Management School said. “The onboarding process was very supportive at each and every step, guided by Maneet ma'am. The five-day induction was filled with knowledge, market visits, and refreshments provided by the whole team. During the induction period, we learned about the processes and how the business operates daily. Every staff member was very supportive and understanding throughout the process.”

By extending this initiative, GTFL is taking significant strides toward a more inclusive and supportive work environment, empowering women to excel in frontline sales and paving the way for future leaders in the industry.
